This was the first very rough sketch of the project/drawing that was going to turn into the final. I had to draw it a couple times actually just to see how I wanted the eyes and the face to turn out and if I should draw the ear or not etc. It also helped me decide that this was the angle I wanted to draw him from.
This is the final draft of the drawing after color and sharpening and what not.
"Character: Shulk from Xenoblade Chronicles
Bust shot, pose is up to artist
Flat colors or shaded, will be used as a profile picture
Does not need to feature any weapons or external objects, only the character
Does not need to be accurate to artstyle of any references the artist may use (i.e. official 3D renders, official hand-drawn art, etc.) "

When working on these projects I had a pretty hard time with time management. The deadline wasn’t the problem just when I decided to start working on it was a really bad idea so that’s something I could’ve done better. Looking back at the commissioned drawing there were a lot of details I wanted to add but didn’t really have enough time because of how late I started working. My individual honors project which was just a banner to use on any type of social media I feel like it sort of fell short. It didn’t take me a lot of time and the design is very simple which makes me feel like I didn’t do enough to it. It was nice to have something simple that wouldn’t take much time to accompany the drawing I ended up pouring a lot of time into, but I don’t feel like the banner really pushed me to a limit or anything. I think because my client was just a friend of mine we went about the client project a bit too casually. We didn’t do a lot of checking in with each other, and he personally didn’t seem like the quality of the drawing really mattered just whatever I gave him would work. I chose to do the client drawing in Sketchbook just because I have an easier time making drawings with it than I do in Illustrator. I’m not really sure why I like it so much more but it just feels easier for me to use or it did for this project. I really love drawing too so I was quite eager to work on this which is why I put SO much effort into it, arguably more than I needed to. I could’ve divided some of that attention into the other project most likely.
